Opening Of City Centre Superhighway

Friday 19 July: From 10.15am with a ribbon cutting, photos and media call at 10.30am

Leeds Cycling Campaign members are invited to attend a ribbon cutting to mark the official opening of Leeds’s new £7.9 million city centre cycle superhighway delivered through the West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s CityConnect programme, aimed at encouraging more people to travel by bike or on foot, in partnership with Leeds City Council.

The scheme, which will provide an extra 4km of segregated cycle routes, will connect the existing sections of the award-winning 23km Leeds Bradford Cycle Superhighway to the east and west of the city, making it safer, easier and quicker to travel by bike in Leeds city centre.

New sections of segregated cycle route exist along Wellington Street towards City Square from the west and along Marsh Lane, York Street, Duke Street and Kirkgate from the east.

The ribbon cutting, photos and media call will take place at 10.30am on the island between Kirkgate, Duke Street and Crown Point Road (please see the pin on first attachment, nearest postcode LS2 7AP).

Light refreshments will be provided.  Please confirm your attendance with the team via cityconnect@westyorks-ca.gov.uk or on 0113 251 7366.

A led ride by Seacroft Wheelers will also be taking place to the ribbon cutting on the morning of Friday 19 July from 9am from Fearnville Sports Centre, Oakwood Lane
