Easy Ride - Rawdon via Canal (with charity ride)

Ursula will lead an easy, friendly ride to Rawdon and back, using cycle paths, quiet streets and the canal towpath.  We will stop at a nice café around half way.

Today we will join another cycling group organised by the cohousing community LILAC who are riding to support a charity in Nicaragua.  Donations entirely optional.  More details below

Today's start point will be The Hyde Park Book Club (LS6 1BL), meet at 10.15am ready for a prompt 10.30am set off.

[Alternatively you may wish to start with the charity ride ride, meet at 10.00 at bridge on Wharf Approach - the very start of the Leeds-Liverpool Canal at lock no. 1, by the Candlestick Building, near the southern entrance of Leeds Railway Station.  We will co-ordinate the rides to meet up on the canal towpath at Kirkstall about about 10.45.  The charity ride will go on to Saltaire, the more usual easy ride will stop at a café then return to the usual start/finish point.]

Today's finish point will be The Hyde Park Book Club (LS6 1BL).

As always we will be friendly and helpful, cycling steadily, no rush.  We will use quiet streets and cycle paths.  No special sports clothes or equipment needed!

Everyone welcome!

Charity ride info:

Leeds Central America Solidarity Group has organised a friendly sponsored bike ride to raise funds for new latrines in our twin town of La Concha, Nicaragua.

The route is along the Leeds and Liverpool canal.  It is traffic free, on a good surface and is child friendly.  You can chose to cycle the 15 miles from Leeds railway station to Saltaire, or meet us along the canal and do a shorter distance. At Saltaire we will have a picnic in the park, after which you can cycle back or take the 20 minute train journey back to Leeds.  Toilets are something we tend to take for granted, but many people in La Concha rely on old, unsafe, unsanitary latrines that are often shared with other households.

The community group in La Concha has identified new latrines as a priority for community development.  So far, thanks to our supporters including the All Hallows community, LCAS has funded 26 new latrines for housholds in the most need, and now we are fundraising for more. Each latrine costs on average $150 to improve or replace.

Please love a latrine by joining us on our bike ride, or by sponsoring us and helping provide safe sanitation for people in La Concha.
