Pudsey Cenotaph

Long Ride to Halifax

A short but hilly ride through Bradford and Queensbury stopping in Halifax (19 miles) at the Shay cafe.  Returning through Brighouse and Tong.

Also to view entrances to two disused railway tunnels that it is hoped will be reopened for walkers and cyclists.  That is the Pudsey Greenside tunnel that runs for over a third of a mile west towards Tyersal and the Queensbury tunnel which runs for 1.4 miles under Queensbury to be part of a route between Bradford and Halifax.

Ride to Halifax CANCELLED

Unfortunately with warnings of ice from the Met Office..............

"Icy patches are likely to form on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths, bringing a risk of injuries from slips and falls as well as difficult driving conditions. "

..........and with the route going down some steep country hills west of Halifax the ride will have to be cancelled.

Longer ride to Cragg Vale - longest continual ascent in England

It's lovely in West Leeds so why not pootle over to Pudsey on Sunday morning and join Barry for a ride to Cragg Vale. Cragg Vale from Mytholmroyd on the B6138 road  proudly claims to be the longest continual ascent in England. 968 feet of climbing in 5.5 miles. It is not steep, just a classic long drag – a power climb with an average gradient of just over 3%. i expect there'll be a few other hill on the ride but not too many.
